3.1 Sharing and real-time collaboration

You made it to the final section! To kick it off, you’ll be learning all about sharing documents and working in real-time with other collaborators — a key part in the design process.

Key learnings

  • Design in real-time with other Editors in the Mac app. See what other Editors are working on, follow them around the Canvas or hide everyone’s cursors for complete focus.

  • Change who can view or edit individual documents in the web app’s Share menu.

  • When you invite external collaborators as Guests, they’ll only be able to see the individual documents you share with them. You can invite as many Guests as you want for free!

  • Whenever you close a document Sketch automatically creates a snapshot of your work called a version. You can manually create a version, add a description and a star using ^S — this will help other members identify key milestones or important updates.

Joseph Todaro

Joseph is our Head of Video at Sketch. He brings over a decade of product, design, and education experience. Before joining Sketch, he was a Senior Product Designer at InVision and was also responsible for the design education courses for InVision Studio and DSM.

While designing in-flight entertainment software at Fuse IFX, he migrated his team to Sketch – a tool that would go on to change the way he works. Eventually, he founded LearnSketch.com as a side project to share his knowledge and passion for the tool.

Joseph currently teaches UI and UX design at the Laguna College of Art and Design. He continues to share resources with the design community through projects like LearnSketch.com, Shapefest.com, LUTHOUSE.com and RandomUI.com.
